From a young age Nicole always wanted to be on the stage entertaining people. When she was just 8 years old she came home from her drama class extremely excited to tell her mum and dad “not only do I have a part, I’ve also to help direct back stage!” Throughout all of her years training in dance, singing and acting, she always said she wanted to teach.

At the age of just 15 Nicole gained a place at Anniesland college for a HND in Dance, she choose not to do this and stayed on a school. At 16 he started training at Stow College for her HND in Musical Theatre and finished her training at Motherwell College. At this Stage she realised that she wanted one thing, to open her own dance school to give boys and girls the opportunity to share her passion.

At just 17 years old, she gained her Associate teachers in Stage. During the same year she auditioned for Scotland’s only professional dance squad, the Scottish Rockettes, out of over 100 applicants she successfully gained a place on the squad of just 10. Nicole danced with the Rockettes for 2 years and got the opportunity to dance at many events from Rocks basketball games – the Special Olympics in Glasgow 2005, masters football – fashion shows. Also taking the opportunity to train at ProDance in Miami, Florida and getting to work with choreographers such as Tabitha, Napoleon D’umo and Brian Friedman.

During the ages of 17 to 20 Nicole taught dance for many companies throughout Scotland; inlciding Glasgow City Council, Impact Arts and East Renfrewshire Council as well as many privately owned dance studios. In 2006 she made the decision to open her own school, “Nicole O’Donnell School of Dance.”

Classes were on a Thursday evening from 5pm-9pm to begin with, during the past 10 years the school has continued to grow in size and strength. Nicole now teaches 4 nights a week with the help of her wonderful assistant teachers. The pupils of the school have had such wonderful opportunities, from performing at the annual show at the Mitchell Theatre every June, to dancing at Hampden Football Stadium for the “Scottish Asian Woman”

In 2010 the school changed name to the “Nicole O’Donnell Performing Arts Academy” as the boys and girls have been given the amazing opportunity to take part in a Musical Theatre class, helping to expand the Academy to put on Pantos at Christmas time, as well as taking them to recording studios.

“I couldn’t be prouder of how the Academy has grown over the past 10 years, I would say that it is all down to the great students I have and the family atmosphere we have at class! Here is to the next 10 years being every bit as amazing and successful. I love doing what I do and sharing my passion and love for performing with all my wonderful NODstars. All my love Nicole xx”
