Angus is the newest addition to the Board of Trustees having been elected in April’s AGM. And this month it was his turn to answer some questions about how his first year is going as a KPC trustee.

1. ‎What attracted you to joining the board at KPC?

I used to play badminton with a group here years, actually decades ago, so I'd always known about the building (though to be honest it doesn't have the highest ceilings and we eventually had to move somewhere else!). During the post-Covid period I heard a few things about how wide a range of different groups used it so when the trustee advert came up I thought why not give it a go. I’d also previously worked with the Chair Lindsey in a couple of volunteer roles.

2. Which decision or moment since you joined has made you feel most connected to KPC's mission?

The last AGM gave me a chance to see and hear the variety of users of the facility along with some of their views and also meet the rest of the staff.

3. What have you learned about KPC that you didn’t know before you became a trustee?

I guess I'm learning about a lot of things that go on "behind the scenes", both practically and also in terms of what you'd call "Governance", which is really about making sure things run smoothly and our oversight roles as Trustees in the process.

4. What’s something you wish someone had told you before you joined the board — even if it’s a tiny, practical thing?

There are a lot of policies and risks to consider (to be fair I should have guessed that from the interview) - I sometimes think that a couple of examples or case studies along with the bare bones and legalese would give more context but I'd better watch what I say about this as the rest of the board will ask me to come up with some!
